A guide to sperry boat shoe sizing

When it comes to the classic Sperry boat shoe, each pair should feel like it was made for you. Literally. With over 80 years of craftsmanship, we’ve perfected the true-to-you fit. Here’s every Top-Sider tip for determining how Sperry boat shoes should fit.

MADE-FOR-YOU MATERIALS

Break them in and wear them out (often). The hand-sewn leather moccasin construction will mold to your foot over time. Plus, our Authentic Original Boat Shoe has 360° lacing, which means you can lace up when you’re on-the-go, or loosen up for weekend wear.

SIZE THEM UP, OR DOWN

First thing’s first: Find out what your boat shoes are made of. If you prefer the leather look, consider a half size down. Leather will stretch over time. If the boat shoes are made of synthetic materials, stay true to size—these won’t stretch, as they’re constructed to hold their shape. Keep in mind, the break-in of your new boat shoes will only affect the width (not the length). Need extra width? Shop our extended width offering.

HOW SHOULD SPERRY BOAT SHOES FIT… WITH SOCKS?

If you’re going to rock a sock, leave a little room. No-show socks with your Sperry boat shoes help with odor protection and added comfort.

SLIP THEM ON

Consider trying on your boat shoes toward the end of the day. Over time, gravity will bring fluid to your feet causing a bit of swelling. Still worried you don’t have the right size? The footbed will compress over time, providing a little extra wiggle room.
